So tomorrow at 6pm a major project goes live, but up until yesterday morning it’s been three different groups working with no communication.

for some reason the client completely forgot that his most import app needed to be skinned. so we have a conference call which goes like this:

me coming in late because i could find a signal.

frank : so then we need to make sure you skin a hard link back to use, with powered by on it.
someone : ok no problem, we think ……(signal faded)
frank: yes that would work, and how long do you think this will take?
someone: we need to asks sid about the file
me: hello can anyone hear me?
me: hello?
frank: where is sid anyway?
me: hello? i’m right here
someone: i thought he would be here
me : hola? hello?
me: frank?
me; terry?
someone: i guess we can wait for him
me: hello - I’m RIGHT here!?
someone: hi sid, we can hear you - lol

so the long and short of it is that the team in Michigan (i think) is sending over a skin mock up, and I’ll be converting everything over to use xml, etc.

we go live in a little over 24 hours, and no one but me is working over night. - lovely.

then came a new issue: the video server

someone: are you sure the video server will be ok with 500 users?
me: yes , from the testing we’re good
someone : well can we limit the users? i don’t want the ceo (of the funding company) to access and not be able to
me: yes we can, but if we limit to 500 at a time, if the ceo is 501 he’ll be kicked off.
someone: hmmmmm
me: u said we have unlimited bandwidth on the server right?
someone: yes
me: ok cause i main concern is bandwidth
someone: so how certian are you
me : 90% but we have two back up servers, and i’ll be monitoring the server once the demo run starts
someone: so do you think we should limit it, i don’t want the ceo to get kicked
me: if we limit it and he’s 501 he won’t get on
someone: so how do we look at bandwidth?
me: you said we have unlimited right?
someone: yes
me : ok we’re good
someone: so what about 2000 users?

repeat same convo *2

lol. I think all projects / companys should be using something similar to basecamp or activeCollab. this would have allowed everyone to be in contact, without having to be introduced by the PM. If they had used it, everyone, would know exactly whats going on right now.

so i guess the point is. use a system, don’t use memory, email, and post it’s
