apparently yesterday was national out day.  not the topic, but thought I’d mention it.

More than half of straight
Americans back equal treatment for gays, and seven out of 10 said they
have spoken out for the homosexual community in the face of verbal
attacks, a poll said Thursday.

One third of poll respondents said they would not speak out in
defense of gays to avoid confrontation, the online Harris Poll survey
of nearly 2,200 adults conducted late September showed.

And one in five cited religious or moral grounds for not speaking
out in defense of gays — but an equal percentage gave the same reasons
for doing so.
